Character Analysis
Captain Barbossa
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
This analysis is an extension of Barbossa's The Curse of the Black Pearl profile.
Character details:
Barbossa appears at the end of the movie!!! After Jack dies, the crew goes back to Tia Dalma's to mourne with her. Tia then asks them if they would do anything to get Jack back. When the crew complies, Tia informs them that there is only one captain who can guide them through "World's End". Barbossa then walks down the stairs, and appears with his monkey 'Jack' on his shoulder. What can I say? I LOVED the ending ;)!
It is still unclear when Tia revived Barbossa.
Did she revive him even before Jack died? Or did she revive him after Jack died so that Barbossa can help them get Jack back?
It is also not explained in the movie why Barbossa agreed to help them find Jack. I guess we'll all have to wait for "At World's End" ;)!
Additional tidbits:
- His only line in the entire movie is "So tell me, what has become of my ship?"
- When Jack and his crew first arrive at Tia Dalma's, Jack offers her the undead monkey. The undead monkey immediately runs to the back of the room and perches on a pair of boots. The pair of boots is worn by a man hidden from the camera. The man is none other than Captain Barbossa :D!
- We also see Jack handling a ring and a feathered hat while at Tia Dalma's. The ring and the hat are both owned by Captain Barbossa in "The Curse of the Black Pearl"
